Top 3 destructive mindset for migrant job seekers

1. Education vs experience

Understand and accept that in one country years of work experience may be considered more valuable than level of education.  Whether we like it or not, whether we think it’s fair or not is a whole another story.

2. Ego of previous job-title:

Understand and accept that you are in a new country and sometimes it means you have to prove yourself again. Develop resilience and flexibility in yourself to adopt and start things over.

3. Desperation for a job-title:

Don’t let the desperation devalue your skills and experiences. This will negatively impact your confidence. Educate yourself about your industry and its workforce dynamics. Learn about your unique strengths and how it adds value to employers.

Just because you have the qualifications, it doesn’t mean employers must hire you. There is a high chance there are more people with the same or even higher qualifications than you. Focus on what makes you stand out and keep moving forward.

Find that golden balance between not being egoistic and picky about a lower-level  job title and not being so desperate that can be interpreted as your lack of confidence in your skills and experience. This requires a good amount of reflection and understanding of your strengths and uniqueness as well as educating yourself about the industry you want to work in.

Combine patience with persistence . Don’t lose hope and motivation. Remember your ambitions before migrating.
